Why Celery Juice? My Journey with Daily Juicing
It’s true—I love to juice. You could even call me a hardcore juicer. Over the years, I’ve created a wide variety of juices. However, nearly every single day, my go-to is freshly squeezed organic celery juice.
No lemon. No ginger. No garlic. Just. Celery.
If you’re in Washington or the Greater Seattle area, I highly recommend getting your celery from PCC Community Markets. They source organic and regenerative farm produce whenever possible. If you’re elsewhere, do your best to choose organic celery. Conventionally grown celery is often sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals you don’t want in your body.
If you’re new to celery juicing, start with 4-8 ounces per day on an empty stomach. Over time, you can gradually increase to 16-32 ounces—which is what I consume daily after years of juicing.
The Health Benefits of Celery Juice
You might be wondering: Why celery?
I first learned about celery juicing from Anthony William, the Medical Medium (MM). He promotes celery juice as a powerful healing tool, and research has begun to back up some of its benefits.
According to Medical Medium, a 2019 review in Phytotherapy Research, and various other studies, celery juice has been shown to:
✔️ Support Digestion – With 95% water content, celery juice hydrates and helps relieve constipation.
✔️ Reduce Inflammation – Celery is rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, known for their anti-inflammatory effects.
✔️ Boost Heart Health – Some studies suggest it may lower blood pressure and cholesterol thanks to its nutrient profile.
✔️ Provide Key Nutrients – Celery juice contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
✔️ Aid in Weight Management – Low in calories and high in fiber, it can support weight loss and maintenance.
✔️ Help Manage Chronic Illnesses – Its anti-inflammatory properties may support conditions like arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease.
✔️ Blood Sugar Levels – With a low glycemic index, celery juice won’t spike blood sugar.
✔️ Offer Antioxidant Protection – Polyphenols fight free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and cellular damage.
That’s a long list of benefits, so why not give it a try?
Doctors, Nutrition, and What You Should Know
Now, you might be thinking, Why haven’t I heard about this from my doctor?
Here’s the thing—most traditional medical doctors receive little to no nutrition education in medical school (typically 0-4 hours). Many will vaguely suggest eating more vegetables while quickly resorting to prescriptions rather than discussing preventative, food-based healing.
I’ve even had a gastroenterologist tell me that diet has little impact on gut health. Excuse me? Their entire specialty revolves around the digestive system! If that’s not proof that the medical system overlooks nutritional healing, I don’t know what is.
If you’re looking for a more holistic approach, consider consulting a Naturopathic Doctor (ND). Be aware that not all are well-versed in celery juicing. My own ND is fascinated by my daily celery habit, acknowledges its benefits, and respects research beyond conventional medicine.
How to Get Started with Celery Juicing
Ready to try it for yourself? Here’s what you’ll need:
№ 1. A High-Quality Juicer – I recommend a masticating juicer, like the Omega MM900HDS (available on Amazon for ~$275). It extracts maximum nutrients without heating the juice.
№ 2. Organic Celery – Buy in bulk! I usually purchase 8-10 bunches at a time. The checkout clerks at PCC used to raise an eyebrow—now they just nod and say, Juicer?
№ 3. Washing & Prep – Celery often has soil residue. Wash it thoroughly in cold, soapy water. Use a dedicated veggie brush.
№ 4. Juicing Process – Feed one stalk at a time into the juicer. Avoid centrifugal juicers—they heat the juice, potentially destroying its nutrients.
№ 5. Drink Immediately – For the best results, consume it fresh on an empty stomach before breakfast.
