Juicing vs. Blending: Why I Do It and What’s the Difference?
I am asked this question a lot. Let’s clear up the confusion. Juicing separates the pulp. However, blending includes it. I do both—it’s an (almost) daily habit. It supports my healthy diet and provides essential nutrients. It plays a vital role in my alternative health journey.
Juicer vs. Blender: What’s the Difference?
A juicer extracts liquid, producing a nutrient-rich juice with little to no fiber. This allows for quick absorption of vitamins and minerals. It is ideal for a detox, energy boost, or alternative health treatments. I try to drink my juice within 20 minutes of making it. When life gets busy, I store it in a padded lunch bag with an ice pack to keep it fresh.
A blender, on the other hand, keeps everything—the pulp, fiber, and nutrients—creating a thicker, more filling smoothie. Because of the fiber content, smoothies release nutrients slowly, providing sustained energy and making them a great meal replacement option.
So which one is better? It depends on your goals. Need a quick nutrient boost or detox? Go for juicing. Want something filling that keeps you satisfied longer? A smoothie is the way to go.
Choosing the Right Juicer
One of the biggest questions I get is: What’s the best juicer to buy? Let’s break it down.
- Masticating Juicers (a.k.a. slow juicers) use an auger to crush and press produce, slowly extracting juice. These low-speed juicers (40-100 RPM) preserve more nutrients, enzymes, and antioxidants because they generate minimal heat. They also produce a thicker, richer juice with less foam. They ensure a higher yield. This is perfect for leafy greens, root vegetables, and even making nut butters or baby food.
- Centrifugal Juicers (fast juicers) operate at high speeds. They can reach up to 10,000 RPM. These juicers use a spinning blade to shred fruits and veggies. During this process the juice is separated. While they work quickly, the heat they generate can reduce nutrient content. This heat can cause oxidation. As a result, you might not get the same benefits as with a masticating juicer. They produce a thinner, foamier juice and work best with fruits and softer vegetables.
So which should you buy? If you want to maximize nutrition and versatility, a masticating juicer is your best bet. If you prefer quick and easy juicing with fewer parts to clean, a centrifugal juicer might be more convenient.
My personal recommendation? The Omega MM900—a masticating juicer priced around $250 on Amazon. It’s an excellent choice for anyone aiming to maximize the benefits of organic juicing. It also helps incorporate alternative health treatments into their routine.
What About Blenders?
When it comes to blenders, I’m biased—only recommending the Vitamix. Here’s why:
- Powerful Performance – With 2 to 3.5 horsepower, Vitamix blenders handle frozen fruit, tough vegetables, nuts, and seeds effortlessly.
- Multi-Use Machine – They make smoothies, hot soups, and nut butters. They also make dough, chopped veggies, and more. You get more than just a smoothie blender.
- Longevity & Warranty – A Vitamix is built to last. Many models will come with a 7-year warranty. Their customer service is top-notch. They even fixed mine after 9 years for a small fee!
Yes, they’re more expensive (starting around $500). High-end models reach $1,000+. However, the investment in your health is worth it.
Juicing & Blending: The Perfect Health Duo
Juicing and blending aren’t either-or choices—they work together as part of a balanced, organic, and nutrient-rich diet. You might want to support healing treatments or boost immune function. Simply feeling better every day is also a goal. Incorporating both into your routine can be life-changing.
As someone who has been exploring alternative health treatments since well before Eric’s cancer journey, I have gained personal insights. It’s a journey I share in my memoir, His Name is Eric. I know firsthand how the right nutrition can make all the difference.
